PiEV: an innovative leader in the development of charging infrastructure for electric mobility

Electric recharging infrastructure: a growing market

The 21st century will be electric or it will not be. Faced with the climate challenge, electric mobility presents itself as a technological and industrial revolution capable of replacing the reign of fossil fuels in the mobility sector.

However, a problem remains: that of the overall development of infrastructure supporting electric mobility, a sine qua non condition for the massification of the energy transition.

This challenge depends on the capacity of both public and private actors to create a whole new infrastructural ecosystem centered on the needs of consumers, who are not yet inclined to take the plunge into electricity.

The challenges are immense and the market very promising: in particular, that of charging stations representing $35.50 billion in 2021, and estimated at more than $417.35 billion by 2030.

It is on this ecological challenge and this economic opportunity that Ali Iftikhar founded PiEV in December 2021. After having created various successful fintech start-ups in Canada, Great Britain and India, this electrical engineer graduated from the prestigious NIT has set itself the ambition of launching the largest innovative electric vehicle charging network in India.

The major issue according to him? The development of continuous rapid recharging infrastructure in commercial areas, due to the insufficiency of residential night recharging for long distances.

It is in this dynamic that PiEV, a pure player in the electric mobility market founded to meet the needs of the next 100 years, is part.

A technological leader who makes electric mobility accessible to all

“ Always be Incharge  ”: this is the leitmotif of Indian business – everywhere and for everyone.

Highways, landmarks, main roads, urban areas, malls, schools, residential and commercial complexes, hospitals… PiEV, intends to be present in the four corners of India by developing 100,000 charging stations and one million charging points for make electric mobility accessible to all.

Everywhere but also for any type of vehicle: the start-up’s offering concerns nine products to meet every need, from bicycles to small and large cars, including utility vehicles, buses and trucks.

Their innovation  ? Accessible, cost-effective and fully managed DC fast charging to know and upgrade demand.

Using their patented engineering technology, the nearly carbon-free PiEV charging station is designed to harvest solar energy and store excess energy.

Wireless charging, thermal management and battery exchange, the technology guarantees fast and safe charging in less than an hour, 24/7, so that once the network is operational, they will be able to serve 4 to 5,000 electric vehicles per day.

With chargers ranging from 3.3 kW to 360 kW, PiEV has the unique ability to meet different customer needs and give them the assurance of a trouble-free journey.

The start-up also starts from the observation that the infrastructure aspect of electric mobility must respond to new emerging consumption habits. For this, all its stations will be equipped with Wi-Fi, toilets, café, restaurants, place of rest and relaxation and repair stations to make the experience more pleasant.

Added to this, the first loyalty program in the electric charging sector: “Evards”, developed by PiEV to retain its customers and enable them to reduce their costs.

Electric mobility and sustainable development: an imperative for PiEV

Faced with a scientific consensus stipulating that a temperature increase of 1.5 to 2 degrees would be catastrophic for humanity, a new economy is emerging: that of sustainability, clean energy and reduced consumption. .

Convinced of the ecological promise of electric mobility, PiEV has been designed to meet the demands of the next 100 years by providing a robust and sustainable charging infrastructure for electric vehicle owners.

Eager to expand use of infrastructure, the start-up also intends to give consumers access to mobility that is still too expensive. A full-fledged player in the access society, PiEV has developed its “ EV for all  ” component: a system of access to electric vehicles by subscription.

At the customer level, the company, in addition to individuals, seeks to focus first on educational institutions and fleet companies, which represent key growth opportunities for charging models and access to electric vehicles by subscription.

With sustainable development at its heart, PiEV has included the UN Sustainable Development Goals 7 and 13 in its model.

Concretely, this translates in particular into a target of 30% renewable energy used or its avant-garde “CO 2 Chain” initiative. This innovative blockchain solution based on the SDGs will enable the company to track the environmental impact of its loading operations and provide customers with transparent and verifiable data on their carbon footprint. Aimed particularly at fleet operators, this service will allow customers to better control their impact and achieve their CSR objectives.

Present at the 2023 edition of the Viva Tech show with the Indian delegation, the company is seeking to raise €125m from Indian and French investors to be able to consolidate its technological solution, a pioneer in this area.

Ambitious and resolutely focused on the future, the company anticipates a capacity to charge 2 to 3 million electric vehicles per day by 2035. With the mission of “ charging for all  ”, PiEV aims to make India a model of a successful energy transition. In short, a textbook case that meets the challenges of the 21st century.
